What is a DNS leak?
Every time you open a website, your device asks a DNS resolver to translate the domain name into an IP address. If those DNS requests go to your ISP's resolver instead of your proxy or VPN's DNS, your provider — and anyone watching — can see every site you visit, even if your IP address is hidden. That is a DNS leak.
How to test for a DNS leak
Connect through your proxy or VPN, then check which IP, ISP and DNS resolver are visible. If your home ISP still appears above, your traffic — and likely your DNS — is not fully protected. For a complete privacy picture (IP, WebRTC, IPv6 and an anonymity score), run our IP & Leak Checker.
How to fix a DNS leak
Use a proxy or VPN that resolves DNS through its own servers, configure a private DNS resolver, and disable IPv6 if it is not protected. Proxy Universe routes your traffic — including DNS — through secure infrastructure across 195+ countries.
